Natural Beauty Routine Inspired by Glossier

*Not sponsored-just for fun!

As much as I enjoy glitter, unconventional lip colors, rainbow smokey eyes, and bold, glamorous makeup looks, I love fresh and natural makeup. For the past few years I’ve been working on taking better care of my skin which has helped me appreciate simple makeup looks that are meant to accentuate my natural beauty instead of cover it up. So when I heard about the Glossier Skin Care Essentials Challenge, where I share the go to products and routine that I use to enhance my natural beauty, I was excited to participate for a few reasons.  First off, now that my skin is in better condition, I feel more comfortable and confident sporting a fresher, more natural face. Second, with the warm summer months quickly approaching, the last thing I want is for my skin to be covered and clogged up with a heavy mask of products. Finally, as the mom of a feisty 15 month old, I’m always in need of of a routine that is quick and easy! Focusing on a few simple steps to enhance your natural beauty is practical, enjoyable, and a great way to look fresh and put together without looking overdone.

I have yet to try any products from Glossier, but I love their philosophy: “We believe that beauty should be fun, easy, imperfect, and personal.” Fantasatic right? In this ever growing social media beauty community, the pressure to look a specific way and sport perfect, dramatic full coverage makeup can be a little overwhelming. Hence I love Glossier’s focus on the importance of skin care and their appreciation for simplicity and enhancing natural beauty. You can check out their products and learn more about the brand here!

This routine is meant to be low fuss and simple while still creating a fresh, glowy, and put together look. In fact I only used two brushes for my whole face. Also, all products are cruelty free! Lets get started!

My mascara is sadly absent from this photo…oops!

The first thing I like to do is even out my skin tone, and I have a couple options to share for both sheer and light coverage. For quick, sheer coverage, I turn to my Bare Minerals Matte Foundation. It helps even out my complexion but looks nearly undetectable on the skin. Now if my skin is having an off day and I want a little more coverage and hydration, I turn to my IT Cosmetics CC Cream. This product can be built up for heavier coverage, but with a couple of tricks, I enjoy it for a natural, lighter look. I use just half a pump of product, dot it on my face, and skip the brush to blend it into my skin with my fingers. Another trick is to mix in some of your favorite moisturizer which creates a lighter, more blendable tinted moisturizer that evens out your skin tone but eliminates any heaviness. If I use the CC Cream, I’ll also apply a light dusting of powder to help set it in place since my skin leans towards combination.

The next step is to conceal my under eyes. I’ll grab my Anastasia Beverly Hills Concealer and use my fingers to pat it under my eyes to conceal those pesky dark circles and add some brightness. The warmth of my fingers really helps blend this product into my skin. This product is newer to my routine, but I’ve been quite impressed with its coverage, lasting power, and finish. This concealer is highly pigmented, and I love that I only need the tiniest amount to cover imperfections without looking cakey.

After that comes one of my favorite steps, blush. Nothing gives my face more life than a rosy wash of color on the cheeks. I like to use cream blush since cream products melt into the skin and look natural. I’ll reach for my Colourpop Blush in Prenup since it creates a beautiful rosy glow and is easily applied and blended with my fingers, no brush needed.

Next comes a couple quick coats of mascara to make my eyes pop. I’ve been enjoying Wet n Wild’s Max Volume Mascara.

For lips, comfort is number one. I’m all about lip balms, but if I do decide to go for some color, I prefer light formulas which are lower maintenance than typical opaque lipsticks. A couple of nice options include elf’s Tinted Lip Balm in Nude and Julep’s Sweet Lorraine.

On to the brows. I’ve always been a fan of natural brows, and for this reason, I love NYX’s Tinted Brow Mascara. It’s so quick and easy and adds just enough color and definition to make the brows look finished but not fake.

We’ve arrived at the final step which is all about adding some glow. I use a fluffy brush and Becca’s Shimmering Skin Perfector in Pearl to add a bit of extra glow to my cheekbones, the inner corners of my eyes, and under my brow bone. Pearl provides a bright, dewy glow to the skin, and it’s a very pigmented product so a light hand will do the trick. Another product that is new to my routine but perfect for a natural, dewy finish is Pixi’s Glow Mist. Not only does it leave your skin with a lovely glow that isn’t sticky or oily, there’s nothing more refreshing on a warm day than a cool mist on your skin!

And now we’re finished! My favorite part about this routine is that I feel like myself when I’m done. I don’t feel like I’m wearing a mask. I can see moles, skin texture, and imperfections, and I’ve come to a point in my life where I realize that’s OK. I’m not trying to hide, and when the time comes, I certainly don’t want my daughter to feel like she has to hide behind a mask to feel beautiful.

      1. Oh how funny! I think it’s with my smaller hooded eyes I just feel like I don’t have as much control as I like. Ahh I was totally looking for that brush today when I was out helping my mother in law get some makeup but I think they were out, boo!
